Siemens consolidates its position in process automation with the acquisition of Eastime Automation Engineering

Eastime Automation Engineering Co., Ltd. and Siemens have signed an agreement whereby Siemens is to acquire the business activities of Eastime Automation Engineering, Shanghai, China. Eastime Automation Engineering, a leading company in China for engineering and project management in process analytics, has more than 30 employees and is active especially in chemicals, petrochemicals, and the iron and steel sector. The takeover is planned for August 2006 when the company is to change its name to Siemens Process Analytics Ltd., Shanghai (SPAS) and become integrated in to the Automation and Drives Group of the regional company Siemens Ltd. in China.

With the acquisition of Eastime Automation Engineering, Siemens will consolidate its position in China with a company that possesses especially good local know-how and sound technical knowledge in the system integration of process analytics devices into overall solutions and plants. The activities of SPAS are expected to be concentrated initially on the Asia/Pacific region, especially China, where many new plants are currently appearing on greenfield sites. The company will then expand to cover Europe and the U.S. Acquisition of the process analytics company Eastime Automation Engineering is another step by Siemens in strengthening its global position in process automation.

The Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D), Nuremberg, Germany, is the leading manufacturer in this field worldwide. Products supplied by A&D include standard products for the manufacturing and process industries and for the electrical installation industry as well as system solutions, for example for machine tools, and solutions for whole industries such as the automation of entire automobile factories or chemical plants. Supplementing this range of products and services, A&D also offers software for linking production and management (horizontal and vertical IT integration) and for optimizing production processes. A&D employs 60,800 people worldwide and in fiscal year 2005 (to September 30) earned a group profit of €1,210 million on sales of €9,844 million and orders of €10,190 million.
