Siemens further strengthens partnership for energy saving and environmental care in Zhejiang Province

Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Oct 9, 2007 -- Today, Siemens joins hands with Zhejiang Development & Reform Committee to co-host an "Energy-saving & Environment Care Forum" in Hangzhou. With energy saving and environmental care becoming an increasingly crucial topic and one of the top priorities for Zhejiang's 11th five-year plan, the Forum's purpose is to establish a platform for government authorities, multinational companies and local partners to exchange innovative solutions that will contribute to Zhejiang's sustainable development. In May this year, Siemens signed a strategic partnership agreement with Zhejiang for more extensive cooperation in the long-run; an important cooperation field is energy-saving and environmental care. Today's Forum is therefore a continuous commitment to Zhejiang's sustainable development. At the forum, Government officials from Zhejiang Development & Reform Committee, Zhejiang Economic & Trade Commission and Zhejiang Environment Bureau introduced the current energy-saving and emission reduction status in Zhejiang, while key experts from Siemens introduced advanced solutions fitting to the needs of the local market and re-emphasized the company's full commitment to help address the challenges. Experts from GTZ, a German technical corporation to provide technical cooperation, joined to introduce advanced and applicable energy-saving technologies from Germany. Domestic enterprises from different cities of Zhejiang Province also joined to exchange ideas.

Located at the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, Zhejiang province plays a strategically important role for Siemens in China. The GDP growth rate of Zhejiang has been keeping a double-digit growth momentum in the past 12 years; and in the year 2006, the GDP growth rate has even reached 13.6%. While, at the same time, Zhejiang is also facing a series of energy and environmental problems continuously emerging as major challenges. Taking 2005 as an example, Zhejiang Province has invested over RMB 21.8 billion to save energy and solve environmental problems; the amount is equal to 1.6% of the total local GDP.

Senior official from Zhejiang Development & Reform Committee commented that: "In recent years, the provincial government has attached high importance and spent great efforts on energy-saving and emission reduction. One of our "11th five-year plan" targets is to lower the CO2 emission by 15%. Siemens is the world's industrial leader especially in these fields, and is willing to help address the energy challenges here. I firmly believe that today's Forum would further establish an effective communication platform to exchange advanced technologies and solutions for energy-saving and emission reduction in Zhejiang."

The advanced USC technology marks a major step towards clean coal technology in China, and helps to increase power generation capacity and reduce pollution in the region," said Mr. Wang Weiguo, Vice President of Siemens China and Provincial General Manager of Siemens Zhejiang.
